Quince anios/ sweet 16, no one aggres with me!?

I'm having a sweet 16 in January (we've already got the hall) Its been a tradition to have a quince but for our 16th birthday. Normally this wouldn't b a problem, but i'm a bit different. My family lives in the city, me in the suubarbs, my friends and i do differnt things, like have differnt tastes in music. for my cuzins parties the music and mass was all in spanish, I hardly understand the language! my mum says it has to have half spanish half english music at the party, since without the family i wouldnt have the party (my father has been telling me not to have the party since i was 3, so no help there) my friends dont understand spanish. How do i make everyone happy? I'm obsessed but the victorian/edwardian era right? so I asked my mum if i could add some the styling to the dresses in my court, no one aggres! so many problems!

I think the half spanish-half english mass is alright. My wedding was like that and I don't even speak one word of spanish. Yes, it is your party... but you also want to be a good host and consider your guests. The point of having a party is to entertain your friends and be surrounded by people you enjoy being around. It is fun for you, but should be fun for them as well.

If the mass is half/half then everyone can understand and everyone can take part. If you have non english speaking family members they may be highly offended if they can not understand ANY of the mass. .

Make the music however you want at your party. Maybe ask mom if at the start of the party when the family is all there you will play the spanish stuff for about an hour while people mingle and eat. But once it is time to dance you will change to music for the kids since they will be the ones dancing. If she is obsessed with spanish music maybe look for some contemporary spanish artists (Gloria Estefan, Pitbull, J.Lo, Ivy Queen, Shakira) so it is spanish but also cool enough for you and your friends. That way all your guests are happy and have something.... and the majority of the night will be your music.

If you want extra decorations on your dresses then work to get some extra money to reimburse your mom for the extra cash spent on this. Do some internet searches for cheap victorian decorations. Thsi party costs lots of money for mom and dad. Let them know you understand this and appreciate it.... then they may be more flexible. Just give them a big hug and a thankyou... act appreciative of everything and then they may bend more. You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.
Reply:Nice that you can have a party, most people don't get one of those. I didn't get a sweet sixteen party. Or a bridal shower. Or a baby shower, ever. Remind them that it's supposed to be your party, but balance that with the fact that someone else is paying for it.
Reply:First of all it is your quince/sweet sixteen. So you should only worry about making yourself happy. However compromise is a step in the right direction. Perhaps you could do half spanish music in hip hop, or some other that has a rythym you and your friends like. Also remember that your quince/sweet sixteen means that you are entering adult hood and should act like one. I think the victorian era sounds nice. Good luck.
Reply:This is about your heritage. Who cares if your friends do not understand spanish. If they were your friends they would be honored to be at your party no matter what ethenic group you are from. Your Mom is absolutely correct. The guest that are attending and going to be bringing you the gifts are mostly of hispanic decent. If you can not please the family and yourself than call the whole thing off. Stop being a spoiled little brat. You should be thanking God you are alive and that people friends and family want to throw a celebration for you. Who cares what you are wearing are you paying for it? If you are that unhappy than take this burden off your parents.

Peace out!
Reply:I had this same disagreement with my daughter last year. after many months of fighting we decided if she didn't want the party that was fine but no sweet 16 bash either. she said no prob and we all went our merry ways with a lot more cash in the pocket. if your parents are going to push the issue with you on this and there is no way they are going to give or compromise with you then your best bet is to just try to have as much fun with it as you can. and it's mostly the point of having the time with your family even if you don't agree on the music cloths or anything, love is love and your friends should have fun. who needs to know the words to dance anyways right?!
Reply:i think you should add the spanish popular music in your area. like ROMPE or GASOLINA or someting like that then both groups would favore it.
