How can I remove a big root ball from the ground.?

We want to remove two large Texas quince bushes. We chopped them down to the root ball. The root balls are 2-3' across and made of many many stalks. It is very deep and doesn't spread out but goes down. Already broke the handle on one pick axe.

Any help!?!

How can I remove a big root ball from the ground.?
You may want to look into either renting or hiring someone with a stump grinder, the tool will grind them up very well, you will end up with a small pile of wood chips.
Reply:You could: hook them up to a Jeep winch and slowly pull them out.

I wonder if a large rototiller would be of any use? You could rent one, or hire someone who has one.

Or?

Reply:wow that sounds like quit a project, might need a small bobcat back hoe,.....there is something smaller it is called a dingo, i think Toro makes it, it is a real small back hoe, so small, there is no seat for the operator, but it might work for you, it is small enough to fit through most gates into a back yard,.....check with your local rental company,.....
